Westend Playgroup is registered by the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) and subject to their inspection procedures and national minimum standards.  Our latest inspection report, self assessment report and the CIW website can be accessed using the links on the right hand side of this page.  

 

We occupy a large well-maintained community hall which provides plenty of space for indoor play and learning and access to an enclosed outdoor space. We also use a smaller room for registration and story time, show and tell and prayers. There is good access for disabled persons, including ramps and toilet facilities.  We have a well maintained and stimulating outdoor space where children grow flowers and vegetables, and have access to stimulating play equipment

 

We are open between Monday to Friday during school term time, which includes an optional lunch club and school drop-off.  The main playgroup session operates between between 9.00am and 12.00 noon, Monday to Friday during school term time and children can be registered to attend between 2 and 5 sessions per week. The cost per playgroup session from September 2024 is £16.00, paid weekly or in advance (e.g. fortnightly or monthly) if you choose.  There is additional optional lunch club and school drop off provision.

 

The curriculum comprises free play and structured activities to suit different ages and abilities. We celebrate the diverse customs, traditions and festivals of all children that attend our setting and our curriculum reflects our commitment to inclusion.  Through completion of a questionnaire and discussion we will endeavour to determine and meet the individual needs of your child.

 

The playgroup curriculum will be delivered in the English Language but integral to the planning is the development of the welsh language through the introduction of colours, numbers and descriptive words through discussion and learning songs and rhymes.

 

Westend Playgroup meets the required adult: child ratios which are currently:
- one adult to four children aged 2 years
- one adult to eight children aged 3 - 7 years

 

Parents/carers are encouraged to volunteer and participate in outings to support the child/adult ratios.

 

KEYWORKER GROUPS
All children have been assigned key-workers and their groups are colour coded and placed on notice board in the foyer.  If you have any questions please see Ceri or your child's key worker.

 

MILLIE AND WESTIE BEAR
Our beloved bears are sent home with a different child on a daily basis.  Children are invited to talk to the group about their activities with the bears the following day.  Please look after their belongings and return them intact so that all children can benefit from this.
